I started to learn the piano when I was 4 years old, then took up the flute when I was 8.
As a child I was surrounded by music and took part in all sorts of musical activities. I played in various youth orchestras, I loved the school choir and I was even one of the Sproughton Handbell Ringers!
I often took part in the Suffolk Music Festival and in various classes was placed 3rd, 2nd and 1st! When I was 15, I gained 2nd place with a Distinction for grades 7 & 8 for 'Piano Playing at Sight'. As you may know, this is where you play music you've never seen before.
I attended the Ipswich High School where I gained my Music O'Level and A'Level. When I was 16, I passed my Grade 8 on the flute with Distinction and when I was 18, I passed my Grade 8 on the piano with Merit.
On the piano, I gained my Music Teaching Diploma with the London College of Music. I started by teaching both the piano and flute from my home and now concentrate on just teaching the piano. I have been teaching for around 25 years and all my lessons are now by video call.
I've had some wonderful teachers and I find it so rewarding to now teach other people how to play the piano and to be able to pass on my knowledge. I have some pupils who I taught as children and have returned for more lessons as adults. It’s always so lovely to see my old pupils again.
As a teacher, I know how important it is to be patient and I always try to be patient and kind to all my pupils so they can enjoy learning and progress well.
My 2 children have had piano lessons with Suzanne since they were 5 up to the age of 18. Both loved their lessons and they worked towards practical grade exams, music theory as well as expanding their repertoire and love of the piano. Suzanne is a patient and thoughtful teacher and is able to get the best out of her students. Under Suzanne’s nurturing and enthusiastic teaching both children were awarded music scholarships at their school and both achieved their Grade 8. Suzanne doesn’t just teach to pass an exam but ensures that her pupils get a wide exposure to all types of piano music and develop a real love for the instrument, whether that is by playing hymns, Christmas carols or a song by Ed Sheeran. I would have no hesitation in recommending Suzanne as a teacher.
